What is Acupuncture?
A Journey, Not a Destination
Acupuncture is a holistic system of medicine that has been practised for thousands of years. Rather than focusing solely on symptoms, it looks at the bigger picture, recognising the connection between body, mind, emotions, and lifestyle.
While Acupuncture is often associated with fine needles placed at specific points on the body, it is much more than that. Traditional Chinese Medicine (TCM) includes a range of therapeutic approaches, including bodywork, cupping, moxibustion, auricular therapy, dietary and lifestyle guidance, all working together to support the body’s natural ability to heal and regulate itself.
More than a collection of techniques, TCM offers a different way of understanding health. It encourages us to pay attention to the signals our bodies are constantly giving us and to view wellbeing as something that is cultivated over time, rather than something that appears overnight.
Healing rarely happens all at once. It is often a gradual process of listening, responding, and creating the conditions for lasting change. In that sense, Acupuncture is not simply about treating a symptom - it is about supporting a deeper relationship with your mind and body.
About me
Hello, I’m Elena.
I am a Licensed Acupuncturist and Tui Na practitioner with a passion for helping people reconnect with their bodies and wellbeing through Traditional Chinese Medicine (TCM).
Before entering the world of complementary medicine, I completed postgraduate studies in Management and Events Planning and spent many years working in project and people-focused roles. My path eventually led me to acupuncture, where I found a system of medicine and a philosophy that resonated deeply with me - and, in many ways, found myself too. TCM views health through a holistic lens, recognising connection between body, mind, and lifestyle.
Alongside my Acupuncture training, I completed a Diploma in Tui Na, a traditional form of Chinese bodywork that complements acupuncture beautifully.
Point·112 was created as a space for thoughtful, personalised care, supporting people through both physical and emotional challenges while encouraging a deeper understanding of their own health.
How I can help
Stress has become a normal part of modern life, yet living in a constant state of tension can have a significant impact on both physical and emotional health.
My aim is to create a calm, welcoming space where we can explore what your body may be trying to communicate and support you in finding greater balance.
My particular interest lies in supporting people experiencing stress, anxiety, burnout and the many ways these can manifest physically.
I believe in empowering people to take active role in their own health and healing, and I’m here to guide and support that process.
Some of the areas I commonly support include:
Stress, anxiety and burnout
Headaches and migraines
Sleep and digestive health
Chronic pain and musculoskeletal conditions
Women’s and men’s health
What to Expect
The beauty of Acupuncture lies in its individualised approach. There is no strict protocol, and each treatment is tailored specifically to you. Our bodies are constantly changing, so treatment evolves with you, responding to what you need on the day.
-
Please make sure you’ve had some food, a light meal or a snack; Acupuncture works best when you're not on an empty stomach.
-
An Acupuncture session typically lasts about an hour. We’ll begin by addressing your main concern and discussing your health history to understand your unique needs. This initial consultation is crucial for tailoring the treatment to you. Next, I’ll take your pulse and examine your tongue, which provides valuable insights into your overall health.
After this assessment, you’ll lie down on a comfortable treatment couch.
Your treatment may include Acupuncture, Tui Na bodywork, cupping, moxibustion (moxa), auricular acupuncture or ear seeds, depending on your individual needs. Each session is tailored to you, and no two treatments are necessarily the same.
You’ll then relax with the needles in place for about 20 minutes. Many people find this time incredibly soothing and deeply restorative, and often drift into what we affectionately call an "Acu-nap”.
-
Everyone’s experience is unique. Some people notice changes after a single treatment, while others - particularly those with longer-standing and more chronic concerns - may find that improvement takes more time and ongoing support.
I generally recommend allowing for at least four weekly sessions before assessing the response to treatment. From there, we can discuss a treatment plan that best supports your body and mind.
Following your treatment, it’s best to stay warm, hydrated and allow yourself some time to slow down and rest if possible.
Self-Care Essentials
Healing doesn’t only happen in the treatment room. Perhaps the new luxury isn’t doing more, but having the time and space to slow down, reconnect with yourself, and listen to what your body is asking for.
What if we paused for a moment and listened?
Small daily habits - rest, movement, nourishing food, time in nature, meaningful connection, and moments of stillness - often have the greatest impact on our wellbeing.
Whether you choose to try Acupuncture and Traditional Chinese Medicine medicine or not, self-care is one of the most valuable investments you can make in your health.
Prioritise sleep
Move your body
Spend time outdoors
Nourish yourself well
Make time for joy
Be kind to yourself
Sometimes the smallest changes make the biggest difference.
